Dear Parent/Guardian:

            The GPS Staff would like to take the opportunity to wish our students and families a very Happy Holiday season.  Our Staff is happy to announce that in late November over 100 turkeys were delivered to our members.  Soon after that event, we held our 1^st Marking Period Celebration in the Principal’s Conference Room.  Our selected GPS members with good grades and perfect attendance were invited to join the party.  They received pizza, certificates of achievement and raffled prizes.  We will have our next Marking Period Celebration in the upcoming weeks.           

On Friday, December 10^th, students received the 2^nd marking period report card.  Now all students are in their 3^rd  and final marking period for this term.  Passing all classes during the 3rd marking period is extremely important because it determines whether the student earns the credit for the course or fails, receives no credit and has to retake the course.

Over the holiday break (12/29), GPS members will be invited to join us at Stadium 16- The Regal Entertainment Group on Forest Ave. for a free movie.  Your child is invited if he or she has passed 5 or more classes on the 2^nd marking period report card.  Transportation to this event will not be provided by the school.  The movie and time is TBA.   Also, our trip to Dave & Buster’s will be based on 3^rd marking period success.   Encourage your child to work hard. 

            In addition to our Math class held Monday – Thursday during 9^th period, we also offer Living Environment, Global and English tutoring during that time.  The attached flier provides further information on the tutoring schedule.

 Dear Parent/Guardian:

Now that students are well into the 2^nd Marking Period, the GPS staff members are aware of our members’ strengths and weaknesses.  If our staff has not already met with your child, we will do so within the next week to offer any tutoring services that may be needed.

Students who have passed all classes on their report card will be receiving an Achievement Award from Mr. Gannon.  Those students who failed more than 2 classes will be placed on a daily report.  A daily report provides open communication between all teachers, parents and the GSP staff members.  The daily includes notes from every teacher regarding classroom behavior, test scores and homework grades.  A parent’s role in this process is to read the daily report, sign it and discuss any issues that may arise.  The GPS staff will review the daily and monitor your child’s progress.   A daily will help gear your child in the right direction for a positive freshmen year. 

With the holidays approaching us, the GPS staff would like to wish our members and families a Happy Thanksgiving.  To reward our students for their effort, GPS staff members will be delivering Turkey’s to each member’s home on Saturday, November 20^th from 10AM – 2PM.  If you do not reside on Staten Island, you may call us and arrange a time to pick up a turkey.  

Just as a reminder, if your child has perfect attendance for a week, they will receive free breakfast catered by “John’s Deli” on Friday’s.  Also, if they pass all classes on their report card, they will receive free movie tickets.  Trips to basketball games and Dave and Busters are currently being planned (some trips may be limited to students with excellent attendance and grades). 

Due to a high demand in Math (Integrated Algebra) tutoring, the GPS 9^th period class is now providing students with four days of credit bearing math help per week instead of the usual two days.  Starting Monday, November 15^th: GPS Members with 9^th period Math tutoring will be able to receive free tutoring in all other subject areas that are needed.  For example, if your student needs Global tutoring, they will not go to their Math Elective class.  However, to maintain the credit for the 9^th period class they must go to Math Elective Monday – Thursday if no other tutoring is needed.  We want to accommodate your child’s individual needs to the best of our ability.
